NAMI Lansing will begin its ten week educational course for family members  on January 14 7:00 p.m. at the Educational Center Ingham Regional Hospital.  Topics covered are Hope for Recovery, Signs and Symptoms, Coping Strategies, Communications, Medications, Resources, Crisis situations, and others. 

$20 fee for the first family member and $10 for each additional family member. 

Preregistration is required.  Please call 517 484-3404 if you are interested.

This group is a roadmap to follow during recovery and beyond. Groups provide great opportunities for learning new strategies and options for dealing with the day to day rigors of living with any mental illness.

NAMI Connection will meet every Thursday. One is not required to participate every time but regular attendance will increase the value of the sessions. Location: Northwest Initiatives  1012 N. Walnut St Lansing.   (Old Walnut Street School)   Door is on the side of the building.

Stephanie Tighe, Director of Charter House, will explain all the opportunities available through Charter House including employment and social opportunities.   Any person with a mental illness can become a member of Charter House.  Come and learn how empowerment skills are learned, pre-employment skills, short-term employment opportunities, and social events.   The Community Work Employment Program will be explained.

Cathy Adams, MSW, Family Support, Community Mental Health, has established a family support group.  They discuss books, videos, or topics related to families who have a loved one with a brain disorder.  All family members are welcome.

They meet the fourth Wednesday of the month except when it is a holiday.   Then they meet on the third Wednesday or the previous Tuesday.  Cathy will notify members of the change.

This class will meet every Thursday evening at the Ingham County Human Resource Building 5303 S. Cedar  starting at 7:00 p.m.    Classes include The brain, medications, coping, communicating, etc.  It is a class designed by National NAMI.  See www.nami.org for more information.
