The Crisis Services Program offers a range of services and supports including:

  • Information and referral
  • Crisis Intervention Counseling
    • Assessment and Screening for:
      - Outpatient services
      - Other appropriate crisis services
      - Partial hospitalization programs
      - Impatient psychiatric hospitalization
      (both voluntary and involuntary admissions)

  • Here's What to Expect
    • A psychiatric crisis services program is very much like a medical emergency room. People generally are seen on a first-come first-served basis but the most critical person will be given priority.
    • The Crisis Services Staff will meet with you briefly to find out why you are here today and obtain some basic information.
    • Sometimes help is not immediately available which may result in a wait. The staff will work to make your wait as comfortable as possible.
    • This is a non-smoking facility.
    • We do not provide food, change for the phone, or vending machines.
    • You will be moved into an interview room as soon as one becomes available. (If you prefer to wait in the lobby area, please let the therapist know this.)
    • Medication is not available.
    • We do not provide housing.

  • Payment
    • No one will be denied services due to an inability to pay. However, if you do have insurance, you need to provide us with accurate and complete insurance information.
    • We accept Medicaid and Medicare insurance. Please provide as much insurance information as possible. Without the complete information, you may be billed for the full cost of services.

  • Criteria for Admission to Inpatient Care
    • Admission criteria have been established to help clinicians determine the appropriate level of care for an individual requesting treatment. Guidelines reflect standards in the mental health code and the review boards of inpatient facilities.
      • Must be suffering from a major mental illness
      • Show severe psychiatric signs and symptoms
      • Be unable to attend to basic self care because of a mental illness
      • Have been violent of harmful to self an/or others because of a mental illness
      • Have medication complications or coexisting medical conditions which require inpatient care
      • Symptoms caused by drug or alcohol abuse do not necessarily warrant admission to a psychiatric unit

Good mental health practice requires that an individual be treated in the least restrictive environment. The Crisis Services clinicians will not hospitalize an individual unless it is felt that there is no other option in the community.
